Police will take action against Wan Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, who was seen slapping, kicking and punching a foreign worker on social media, deputy inspector-general of police Noor Rashid Ibrahim said.

Whether or not a report is lodged over the incident, Noor Rashid is quoted as saying by The Star Online today, police see it as undermining their authority and he gave his assurance that action would be taken against the blogger.

While he had not seen the video, Noor Rashid ( photo ) said the people should not take matters into their own hands.

"I haven't seen it (the video). But be it foreigners or locals, we are all subjects of the law. If we beat anyone - your friend or not your friend - if you bring harm to a person, you have done wrong and we will take action," he said.

"We can't have people simply beating others when they like. They have to follow the law. They have to be taught a lesson."

Papagomo, a former traffic policeman, had accused the purported foreign worker of harassing two of his younger sisters and two of his friends.

He told the affected worker's supervisor that he would assault the worker if he did not go away.

Papagomo defended his actions on social media, saying his sisters and their two friends were able to identify the perpetrator responsible and described his actions as a " saviour " and “what an elder brother is supposed to do”.

He also denied that his actions are that of a thug.
