Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar reserved his comments today on the investigation into state-owned fund 1MDB, saying that the police are still going through the findings from the 106-page public accounts committee report.

"In relation to 1MDB, it is a 106-page report, so I think we need some time to go through the report.

"I will make a statement when we are ready," Khalid told reporters at a press conference at Bukit Aman this morning.

He said this when asked on the progress of police investigations against the debt-ridden fund.

The PAC report was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on April 7 and Khalid had tweeted that police would conduct a detailed and in-depth examination to check if there are any elements warranting investigation and further action.

Aside from the recommendations in the PAC report, Khalid said, the police are also waiting for the full auditor-general’s report on 1MDB to be released.

Previously, Khalid said, police investigation into 1MDB was dependent on details in the auditor-general's report.

He had said while the investigations were going on, it could not be concluded until the auditor-general's report is ready and released.

The PAC report had, among others, urged the authorities to investigate former 1MDB chief executive officer Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi and others in the management.

"Particularly, PAC was of the view that 1MDB ex-CEO Shahrol should take the responsibility for the weaknesses and constraints.

"As such, the enforcement agency was urged to investigate Shahrol and other management staff," the PAC report on 1MDB state.

However, Shahrol has maintained that there has been no wrongdoing during his tenure as CEO.
