Adenan claims Kit Siang misquoted Najib on 'oil royalty snub'

S'WAK POLLS Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem said DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang's claim that Putrajaya had snubbed Sarawak's demand for higher oil royalty is a misquote of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's statement.

Adenan pointed out that Najib did not dismiss the request but merely stated that now wasn't the right time to discuss the matter.

"Kit Siang misquoted on the oil royalty issue. I was there sitting next to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak during the meeting yesterday.

"He said now is not the appropriate time to talk about the oil royalty because the oil price has collapsed.

"But, if the price has stabilised later onwards, then we can start negotiating again, and we don't expect Kit Siang to mention that," Adenan told a press conference at Wisma Bapa in Kuching today.

Najib after chairing the Cabinet meeting in Sarawak yesterday told the press that the country had lost RM40 billion in revenue due to falling oil prices.

As such, he said, now was not the time to discuss the Sarawak government's request for oil royalty to be increased from five percent to 20 percent.

Subsequently, Lim said this was a slap in the face for Adenan.
