Penang DAP decided today that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng need not go on leave or resign, after he was charged with corruption today.

This is because the charges are politically-motivated, the committee decided at an emergency meeting on the matter today.

"The state DAP committee guarantees that the state government operations will continue as usual and it will not be disrupted by the recent charges against Lim," said state DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow.

"The two charges against Lim are baseless and appear to be based on political motive; we will support fully every effort (by Lim's legal team) to prove that he is innocent," added the state executive councillor.

Lim earlier said he will leave it to the party to decide whether he should take a leave of absence or step down.

Penang Umno wants him to resign while Gerakan Youth said he should go on leave pending the outcome of the trial.
