Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng wants to know whether Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor would stand to benefit over a new policy which will see a two-hour limit for cars parked around the central business district areas.

Citing newspaper reports, Lim said traders centred at the areas, as well as the public, were not previously informed about the new ruling, nor were discussions held between the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and those involved in the matter.

“Ku Nan (Tengku Adnan) should tell us what’s in it for him with this new policy which was formulated hastily,” Lim said in a statement.

He added that the new policy should be postponed until all business owners and city dwellers received briefings from the government on the kind of research conducted to come out with the new policy, as well as the alternatives for those who have no choice but to park their cars for more than two hours in the areas.

Questioning DBKL’s manpower to enforce the new policy, Lim said DBKL should instead station more officers to monitor the traffic at congested areas.

“City dwellers, employees and business owners should be given permits exempting them from the time limit.

“In fact, we should wait until the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project comes into completion and is in operation for sometime before a new policy is implemented,” he added.

Tengku Adnan on Saturday announced that the DBKL will impose the new ruling which will come into effect on July 16.

“When the two-hour period is up, these vehicles still parked in the central business district areas such as in Bukit Bintang, Imbi and KLCC will be clamped and towed to the DBKL vehicle depot,” he had said.

The Putrajaya MP said it was hoped that the new ruling would see less vehicles entering the congested areas and more road users using public transpor to enter the city.
