A police report has been lodged over a joke made by Singaporean comedian Fakkah Fuzz in which he likened Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to a “thief”.

Speaking to reporters after lodging the report, Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman) secretary-general Hafiz Nafiah branded Fakkah’s action as "irresponsible".

As such, Hafiz also urged the Immigration Department to blacklist Fakkah from entering the country.

“Seniman views this seriously as it can destroy the diplomatic ties between Singapore and Malaysia.

“In fact, many artistes from Singapore come to Malaysia for jobs. So we are of the opinion that if you want to make a name for yourself here, do it properly and not through cheap publicity,” he told reporters outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Meanwhile, Hafiz also took the opportunity to remind Fakkah that as a comedian, he should have been more sensitive on certain issues and should have avoided from making “extreme” jokes.

“Even local comedians are not that extreme.

“As (local) artistes or comedians, we never make use of the names of leaders from other countries. So why must you attack our leaders?” he asked.

After the uproar, Fakkah yesterday apologised for causing offence but however said that he did not accuse anyone of anything and was instead making jokes about current events.

His apology, however, failed to calm Selangor and Federal Territories Umno Youth who want the comedian barred from Malaysia.

In a video clip which went viral, Fakkah said Singapore Malays call a thief 'pencuri' while Malaysian Malays call a thief 'perdana menteri' (prime minister).
