Harakahdaily will study Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s proposal on the terms of an out-of-court settlement relating to his suit against the PAS-owned news portal.

Najib’s lawyer Mohd Hafarizam Harun said his client had submitted the proposal containing the terms of settlement on July 4.

Hafarizam, however, did not reveal the details of the terms of settlement to the press.

Court of Appeal president Md Raus Sharif, who conducted the case management today in chambers, fixed another case management for the case on July 26.

Meanwhile, lawyer representing Harakahdaily Wan Rohimi Wan Daud said he needed more time as Najib’s proposal must first be discussed with his clients.

“The proposal was sent on July 4, our office was already closed (for the holidays) at the time.

“We only saw the proposal today, that's why there was no time for discussion with my clients. I, myself, saw the proposal just now,” he told Malaysiakini.

Najib named Harakah managing director Dr Rosli Yaakop and Harakahdaily chief editor Taufek Yahya as defendants in the defamation suit filed on March 18 last year.

The suit was over the portal's article on his stepson Riza Aziz and 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), which was mainly based on a New York Times report.

In his statement of claim, Najib had said the article portrayed him as having misused 1MDB funds and that the publication of the article was intended to tarnish his reputation.

The Court of Appeal had initially fixed today for both parties to inform the court the outcome of their negotiation to settle the suit.
