The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) is still investigating 1MDB auditors KPMG and Deloitte Malaysia, more than a year following complaints filed by a DAP lawmaker.

"Actually our process is still ongoing," said MIA chief executive officer Nurmazilah Mahzan when quizzed on the matter during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

"It is best for me not to give any comment because our progress is ongoing," she added.

Asked when the probe is expected to be completed, Nurmazilah replied: "We will tell you once we are ready to make the statement."

She also offered a similar response when quizzed on whether MIA would wrap up its probe by this year.

"We will tell you once we are ready," she said.

According to a StarBiz report on June 3 last year, Nurmazilah's predecessor Ho Foong Moi said MIA would investigate KPMG and Deloitte, who signed off on the controversial 1MDB account.

This came after Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, who is a fierce critic of 1MDB, lodged two complaints against KPMG and Deloitte with MIA on March and May 2015 respectively.

He accused both renowned auditing firms of neglecting their duty in checking 1MDB's figures.

Pua also questioned MIA's "snail pace" with regard to investigating his complaints.

After the United States Department of Justice's (DOJ) civil suits over the alleged abuse of 1MDB funds, Deloitte Malaysia announced that its audit of 1MDB in 2013 and 2014 “should no longer be relied upon”.

Before Deloitte Malaysia, 1MDB also announced that its audited financial statements in 2013 and 2014 should no longer be relied upon pending the US court judgment.
