Kelantan PAS Youth has lodged a series of police reports against lawyer Siti Kasim for allegedly being the “main instigator” behind the rise in anti-logging activities against the state government among the Gua Musang Orang Asli community.

State information chief Nazman Che Ibrahim told Malaysiakini that two police reports were lodged this morning, while the remaining 13 PAS Youth state divisions would be lodging their reports by tomorrow.

According to the report, Nazman said he had read a series of Facebook postings by Siti, describing the contents as “slander, lies, mockery, incitement and threats” towards the Kelantan state government, including condemning public officials on issues linked to the Orang Asli blockades.

“I also saw that Siti Kasim has consistently tried to incite the orang asli to hate and rise against the federal government, Orang Asli Development Department (JAKOA), Forestry Department, police and the state government,” he said in the report lodged at the Kota Baru police contingent headquarters.

“Therefore, as a Kota Baru PAS Youth central committee member, I am lodging this report so that the police can swiftly arrest and investigate Siti Kasim, in order to prevent the racial tensions from worsening and leading to possible bloodshed,” said Nazman, who referred to an incident which purportedly happened in the early 1990s at Sg Rual, Jeli, Kelantan.

In response to the reports, Siti Kasim in a Facebook post had mocked the PAS Youth leaders as “stupid idiots” who cannot accept the reality that the Orang Asli community are capable of independent thought and to have their own stand.

She also threatened to sue them for accusing her of being the main instigator behind the Orang Asli’s continuous resistance against the loggers and state-government, despite being arrested and having their blockades dismantled.

Asked for comment, Nazman said: “That (legal avenue) is the best (way to resolve issues). She should have done it from the very beginning.”

“If there are any issues, it must be resolved through the proper legal channels. Not by instigating the Orang Asli to oppose the government and create tensions. That is what we do not want,” he stressed.

He also defended their claims against her, based on purported confessions from over 50 Orang Asli village heads during a recent meeting with the Kelantan menteri besar.

The Kelantan Forestry Department, backed by police, had on Nov 29 dismantled three blockades in Pos Pasik, Pos Petei and Pos Bihai and in total had arrested 54 members of the Orang Asli community.

Since their release, the groups have vowed to erect more new blockades, as well as having lodged a report with the Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission over varius alleged abuse of powers.
