The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today obtained an order to remand for seven days, a general manager of a government agency who allegedly abused his position by awarding more than 50 projects worth nearly RM1 million, to two companies belonging to his wife.

Bernama reported that the remand order was issued by Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman in the Putrajaya Magistrate's court.

The 62-year-old was arrested during an operation at 11am yesterday in Selangor and would be investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

Also detained during the operation was his wife, aged 38, but the woman was released last night after MACC recorded her statement.

According to MACC, the suspect was believed to have abused his position since he was appointed the agency's deputy general manager in 2014. He was promoted to general manager in September last year.

He is believed to be directly involved in the tender process and also responsible for approving payments to his wife's companies, which were established in 2010 and 2015 respectively.
