Ties between PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) are becoming warmer after the Islamist party made overtures for a meeting on seat allocations. 

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said after many attempts to forge ties, PAS has finally invited his party to the table. 

"(Our relationship with PAS) is getting warmer. We are invited to PAS events every day... this is a good development.

"There were (no talks) earlier, but they have now invited us to discuss seat allocations.

"This is the way forward," he told a press conference at Bersatu's headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.

He added that Bersatu would not give up on negotiations with PAS as long as things look positive. He added that Bersatu would only give up if they hit a dead end.

He said negotiations with PAS will not involve other parties.

Thus far, Bersatu has identified which seats they are interested in, but it was still subject to discussions with other opposition parties.

He said it was a possibility that Bersatu will not contest seats won by Pakatan Rakyat in 2013.

Bersatu has formed a pact with Pakatan Harapan but have yet to engage in seat allocation talks with the coalition. Bersatu had also held several meetings to discuss possible cooperation.

However, PAS has remained adamant having ties with parties who are allied to Parti Amanah Negara and DAP, which are two components of Harapan.
