Meeting Rajinikanth is not in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor's itinerary during their trip to India later this week.

Rosmah's aide Rizal Mansor said this in a Facebook post denying there was a request by the couple to meet the Indian Superstar.

"Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor has the greatest respect for Rajinikanth and understand how huge a star that he is - both in India and in Malaysia.

"However, there is no truth in recent news reports that there was a request to meet M. Shivaji (referring to Rajinikanth's real name). Neither it is scheduled for this visit to country with one of the world's fastest economic growth this year.

"Speculation from unfounded sources is not helpful," Rizal posted.

Earlier reports alleged that Najib and Rosmah had requested to meet the Tamil movie idol, who has a demigod-like status due to his legion of fans around the world.

According to Indian news website The Telegraph, it was shown the “minute-to-minute” programme of the VVIP visitors during their two-day visit to Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu.

The report revealed that Najib and Rosmah had become fans of Rajinikanth during the actor's stay in Malacca for the filming of his movie 'Kabali'.

“But the Tamil icon, whose Malaysia-shot film was a huge box office hit, is acting coy. He has not yet agreed to Kuala Lumpur's request.

“Hopeful of a confirmation from Rajinikanth in the next two days, Malaysian diplomats in Chennai have kept a slot free on the first couple's itinerary on Friday morning, according to a minute-to-minute programme of the VVIP visitors shown to The Telegraph,” read the report.

Najib would be on a five-day visit to India from this Friday, upon the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The visit would be Najib's third to India since assuming office as prime minister in 2009.

Apart from Rosmah, Najib would also be accompanied by Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and senior government officials.

The prime minister is slated to visit Chennai, New Delhi and Jaipur.
