DAP Youth: 'Racist' Kit Siang book breaches law for not naming publisher
A book denouncing DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang as a racist has violated the law, according to DAP Youth chief Wong Kah Woh.
He said the book, revealed by Umno information chief Annuar Musa, does not display the names of the publisher and printer as required by the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (PPPA).
"How can a book be compiled or published without these details?
"This is another clear attempt of taking the law into his (Annuar's) own hands," Wong told Malaysiakini...
"This is another clear attempt of taking the law into his (Annuar's) own hands," Wong told Malaysiakini.
Annuar had launched the book titled "DAP Bahaya Kepada Melayu-Islam Di Malaysia" (DAP a danger to Malays and Islam in Malaysia) in Shah Alam this morning.
The book - a compilation of writings by an anonymous author - had won the top prize of RM10,000 in Annuar's writing contest, to show that Lim is a racist.
Former Bar Council president Lim Chee Wee confirmed that this was an offence under the PPPA.
Section 11(1) of PPPA states that every publication, printed or published within Malaysia shall have printed legibly in Bahasa Malaysia or English in the first or last leaf of the book the name and address of its printer and publisher.
Those who publish, sell, circulate or distribute such publications can be imprisoned up to one year, or fined up to RM5,000, or both.
The book was given out for free to those who attended the event.
At a press conference held after the event, Annuar had said neither he nor the contest organisers owned the book.
"We don't own the book, this book was done by them (the author), but I had to buy several copies to give to the (Umno) information chiefs to read.
"This book is still owned by them (the author), they printed it themselves and they sent it to us yesterday" he added.
Malaysiakini has contacted Annuar for further comment regarding the legality of the book.
