Newly appointed Land Public Transport Commission (Spad) chairperson Isa Abdul Samad has willingly resigned from his previous post as Felda Global Ventures Bhd (FGV) chairperson, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said today. 

“I can confirm that I have discussed with Isa this morning. 

“We had an in-depth discussion about the future of FGV and therefore he willingly resigned from his post as chairperson, which means he will be replaced with Sulaiman Mahbob as acting chairperson,” said Najib during a press conference in Putrajaya today. 

FGV had in a filing to Bursa Malaysia confirmed Isa's resignation effective immediately. 

Commenting further, Najib said the meeting at Perdana Putra this morning was also attended by former minister Idris Jala who was appointed as an independent party to probe the FGV crisis. 

On Isa’s new appointment, Najib said the move was done in honour of his role in FGV. 

“To honour the role that he has played in FGV, we (the government) have agreed to appoint him as acting Spad chairperson effective immediately,” he said. 

Asked for comments on allegations of wrongdoings against Isa during his tenure as FGV chairperson, Najib said: “An internal action will be conducted to ensure that justice is served through the inquiry board.” 

Isa was appointed as chairperson and non-independent executive director of FGV on Jan 1, 2011.
