Jasin parliamentarian Mohd Said Yusof should lodge a report with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) if he has proof of corruption in the customs department, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

In a statement yesterday, the opposition leader warned that if he did not file a report then the public will see Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs as not being able to walk the talk on corruption.

On Wednesday, Mohd Said told the Dewan Rakyat that certain Malacca customs officials sold confiscated luxury cars for as low as RM40,000 to their royal and government contacts.

The MP claimed that only cars with lower market value are auctioned off to the public.

Mohd Said told reporters later that he had proof to back his allegations but since the matter was public knowledge, he would not file an ACA report.

Personal vengeance?

The MP had recently courted controversy when he told the Malacca customs to ' close one eye ' to a seized shipment of illegal logs handled by his company.

When the news broke, Mohd Said remained defiant that he did not abuse his power and accused the Malacca customs of having an axe to grind with him.

He is currently being investigated by the ACA over the issue.

In view of this, Lim said the MP must show that his latest allegations against the customs department were not motivated by personal vengeance.

"Failure to pursue the matter will only be met with derision from the public that BN MPs know how to talk but dare not act against corruption," he added

The opposition leader urged Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to direct Mohd Said to lodge the relevant reports.
