An interchange and flyover worth RM86.3 million have allegedly gone 'missing'. This has left Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Youth puzzled.
To solve the mystery, its vice-chief S Manikavasagam has turned to the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) for help.
This morning, he lodged a report with the ACA against Works Minister S Samy Vellu, two contractors and individuals to find out why the projects in Sungai Buloh-Damansara did not take flight.
The report was lodged with the ACA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and received by the agency's assistant director Abu Zubir Mahfouz.
Abu Zubir told reporters the report would be forwarded to the ACA headquarters in Putrajaya as it contained serious allegations.
In his report, Manikavasagam named the two contractors as Konsortium Melati Ehsan (M) Sdn Bhd dan Desa Purnama Sdn Bhd but did not disclose the names of the individuals involved.
According to him, Samy Vellu made a statement regarding the construction of the interchange and flyover but these never materialised.
"In view of this, PKR wants the ACA to investigate what happened," he told reporters later.
He said media reports on Dec 2, 2003 quoted former Bukit Lanjan state assemblyperson Lam Weng Keong as saying that the contractors would start work at the Damansara Damai junction first and the project would be completed in six months.
RM18 million invested
Manikavasagam also claimed that three developers - MK Land, Talam Corp dan Prima Damansara - had invested RM18 million for the project.
He said according to preliminary plans, the two projects were expected to be fully completed by the end of this month, but until now no work had started.
He also claimed that on March 10 last year, Samy Vellu reportedly said Konsortium Melati Ehsan dan Desa Purnama would build the projects.
"In the catalogue produced by MK land, the project involves the construction of six lanes and a flyover. It was expected to be ready by September 2006," he said.
Manikavasagam also warned that residents in Damansara Damai and its surrounding areas would consider legal action if the issue was not resolved.
"The residents feel cheated and disappointed because they were promised the interchange and flyover but it (the projects) suddenly went missing," he said.
Because of this, he added residents are forced to deal with heavy traffic congestions in the area everyday.
Samy Vellu could not be reached for comment.
