Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) incumbent deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali is leading vice-president Azmin Ali in the nomination race for the number two post.

Syed Husin has received 16 nominations while Azmin has 14. The contest will take place during the opposition party's national congress in May.

Apart from the duo, former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Nor also received two nominations for the deputy president post. The nominations were from the Bukit Mertajam and Merbok divisions.

Ezam had recently resigned from all posts in the party but remains as an ordinary member.

Meanwhile, PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim received 26 nominations for the post of president, which is held by his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Wan Azizah received five nominations while former deputy president Abdul Rahman Othman was nominated for the post by the Padang Serai and Merbok divisions.

The nomination process, involving 167 divisions nationwide, will conclude by the end of the month.

According to the PKR information bureau, 33 divisions have completed their annual meetings as of the weekend.

Vice-president posts

Nominations also continued to pour in for the elected vice-president posts. Incumbent Dr Lee Boon Chye is leading the pack of 14 hopefuls with 29 nominations. His is the highest number of nominations in any category.

This is followed by appointed incumbent Mustapa Kamil Ayub with 12 nominations and two other elected incumbents Sivarasa Rasiah (11) and Azmin Ali (9).

Newcomer S Nallakarupan is also expected to give the incumbents a run for their money after receiving 12 nominations.

Party information chief Tian Chua received two nominations to contest for vice-presidency.

Others in the race are women's wing chief Fuziah Salleh (8), Ezam (6), PKR Sabah deputy chief Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (3) and deputy secretary-general Dr Xavier Jayakumar (2).

Ex-Umno Penang Youth chief Dr Rahim Ghouse, PKR Penang cheif Zahrain Hashim, supreme council member Dr Mansor Osman and Dr Badrul Amin Bahron have received one nomination each so far.
