DAP Sungai Pinang assemblyperson Koid Teng Guan today took full responsibility for the ' duplication ' fiasco in the state assembly.

Former Gerakan assemblyperson Ong Thean Lye had alleged that the questions Koid raised in the present assembly sitting are the same as the ones he raised last year.

The significance of the allegation is amplified by the fact this is DAP’s first state assembly since assuming control of Penang in March.

"It was gross negligence on my part," said Koid.

"I overlooked the fact that my written questions were virtually similar of that asked by another assemblyperson in the previous term," he said in a brief statement.

The questions were raised by Ong on Nov 19 last year. A reading of Koid’s questions show that they are identical to the former's [see below].

'Copied word for word'

The Pakatan Rakyat backbencher on Monday submitted three written questions on the monorail project, natural gas vehicle pumping stations and the state sports trust fund.

The next day Ong claimed ownership of the questions, at a press conference at the opposition leader’s room. He accused Koid of copying 'word for word'.

Koid and Ong share an uneasy relationship, as Ong defeated Koid in the contest for the Datuk Keramat state seat in 2004.

Deputy chief minister Prof P Ramasamy - who is also the Pakatan Rakyat chief whip - said today that there will be a party inquiry into the issue before deciding on further action.
