Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar was at the Sepang district police headquarters today to give his statement pertaining to the case of car theft suspect Kugan Ananthan who died in a police lock-up on Jan 20.

"There's nothing to comment. I've given by statement as requested. Let the police carry out their investigation," he said when contacted by Bernama .

Kapar MP's police report

Member of Parliament for Kapar S Manikavasagam had lodged a police report against Khalid for allegedly making a false statement that two deputy ministers and Kugan's family had barged into the Serdang Hospital mortuary on Jan 20.

kugan ananthan funeral 230109 Kugan, 23, who was arrested on Jan 15 for suspected involvement in the theft of luxury cars in Sungai Chua, Kajang, died at the Taipan police station in Subang Jaya five days later.

A video clip taken at the Serdang Hospital mortuary revealed severe lacerations on the body of deceased, prompting the family to allege foul play.

The incident also sparked off a huge public outcry with various quarters, including political parties holding demonstrations.

Following this, the attorney-general re-classified the case as murder and 11 police personnel were reassigned to desk duty.

However, nobody has been charged yet.
