Najib denies luring Pakatan reps with cash
Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today denied allegations that he had offered bribes to induce the defections of two Pakatan Rakyat assemblypersons in Perak.
Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has denied allegations that he had offered millions of ringgit to induce the defections of two Pakatan assemblypersons in Perak.
At a press conference held at Hilton KL Hotel today after the opening ceremony of the D-8 Ministers Meeting on Food Security, he was probed by a reporter regarding the allegation.
Looking slightly irked, he asked: “So, are you not interested in food security at all?”
He then proceeded to comment on food security in the region as well as the second stimulus package.
Keshvinder Singh of DAP (Malim Nawar) and Abdul Yunus Jamsari of PKR (Kuala Kurau) had filed the report at the MACC (Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission) office in Ipoh yesterday.
However, the same question was posed again just when Najib was about to signal the end of the press conference.
The reporter noted that two Pakatan MPs from Perak had lodged a report at the MACC, alleging that they had been offered bribes to defect to BN.
'This is quite serious'
To this, Najib replied: “Let the SPRM (MACC) investigate then. I do not know what the allegations are.”
The reporter then said that the assemblypersons had directed the allegations at Najib himself.
“I do not know who they are. (As I’ve said) let the commission conduct the investigations,” said Najib.
After fielding another question on food security, he added,
“They (PR assemblymen) will be prosecuted if they make false reports, and this is quite serious. If statutory declarations are (found to be) abused, they will be charged as well.”
The same reporter then pointed out that the assemblymen claimed that they had evidence of the bribery.
“Oh yes, of course. That is what they claim. Let the commission investigate…but as I have said, if they have made false reports, then they will face the consequences,” replied Najib.
