DAP stalwart Karpal Singh today took Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin to task over his challenge to the veteran politician.

khairy jamaluddin interview 230209 17 Yesterday, Khairy had called on Karpal to repeat his accusation outside of Parliament that Umno Youth was responsible for the death threats and live bullets the latter had received last week.

Dismissing the challenge, the opposition leader said: "He (Khairy) is just a juvenile and he is not in my league. I will not entertain his challenge."

"He should do what his father-in-law (Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) does and just sit idly.

"His father-in-law and I were elected to Parliament at the same time. He (Khairy) is just a political juvenile. I will not be intimidated by such threats or dares," he added.

Meanwhile, Karpal also criticised Parliament Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia for not taking action against the Umno Youth members who had mobbed him at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

"The speaker under the committee could have issued the warrants of arrest on those responsible Such actions are irresponsible. However, I would not be intimidated. Jangan ugut saya (Do not threaten me)." he said.

As for the investigations against him concerning his alleged seditious remarks regarding the Perak ruler, Karpal said he was merely pointing out a point of law in the Federal Constitution based on Article 181 which states:

'No proceedings whatsoever shall be brought in any court against the Ruler of a state in his personal capacity except in the Special Court'.

"Hence, legal action could be taken on the ruler in his official capacity in the civil court.

"That is what the constitution suggests and that was why I said the Pakatan Perak government should look into that avenue," he said.

More than a hundred police reports have been filed against the veteran politician after he threatened to sue the Sultan over the political turmoil in Perak.
