Importance of proper scheduled waste management by organizations towards achieving ESG principles
Achieving ESG objectives is now an imperative for any organization’s reputation and long-term sustainability. Industrial stakeholders are increasingly using ESG criteria to measure an organization’s performance, beyond just financial results.
In the context of scheduled waste management, a proper scheduled waste management protocol is essential towards achieving strong ESG performance.
Apart from having a positive effect on the environment, public health and ensuring adherence to regulations and potentially lowering operating costs and raw material sourcing, achieving ESG objectives through proper scheduled waste management enables the organization’s actions to be aligned with Sustainable Development Goal related to Responsible Consumption and Production, Clean Water and Sanitation and Climate Action.
Naza Enviro’s scheduled waste management facilities in BTEP are the solution
Bukit Tagar Enviro Park (BTEP), entirely owned by Naza Enviro Holdings Sdn Bhd (Naza Enviro) Group of Companies, is situated in Hulu Selangor in the State of Selangor. The Enviro Park serves as a sustainable integrated waste treatment and recycling center, offering comprehensive solutions for both solid and scheduled waste management in Malaysia.

In 2015, Naza Enviro commenced its maiden foray into scheduled waste management business by collaborating with Amita Corporation from Japan on Co-processing recycling of 15 Scheduled Waste (SW) codes into Alternative Raw Material (ARM) for the cement industry, via a joint venture to form Amita Naza Sdn Bhd (ANSB).
In 2021, Naza Enviro expanded its capability from handling 15 SW codes to 76 SW codes by collaborating with another Japanese, JFE Engineering Group of companies namely, J&T Recycling Corporation Japan and JFE Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd to form J&T Naza Alam Murni Sdn Bhd (JNA).
As part of its initiative to offer a comprehensive range of treatment services, JNA has successfully established its integrated Sustainable Scheduled Waste Treatment Center (SSWTC), which encompasses of Scheduled Waste to Energy Plant (SWTE) Plant, Secured Landfill, and Solidification Plant. With the successful commencement of SSWTC full-scale operations in March 2024, SSWTC is poised to provide extensive solutions to customers/waste generators across the industrial, medical, and public utility sectors.
Amita Naza Sdn Bhd (ANSB) Co-processing for Scheduled Waste Recycling
The Sustainable Resource Management Center by ANSB in BTEP commenced its operation in 2017 to convert scheduled waste into ARM for the cement manufacturing sector. It has an operating capacity of 100,000 tons per annum and licensed by Department of Environment (DOE) to manage 15 SW codes of scheduled waste from the industrial sectors in Malaysia.

Instead of disposing the scheduled waste, the plant employs advanced technology of co-processing to produce ARM and Alternative Fuel (AF), which can serve as substitutes for natural raw materials in cement production and other industries, leaving no residue behind and does not involve the usage of chemicals, heat, water, or additives.
In line with the Malaysian Government’s Green Industry Strategic Plan, the plant emphasizes the importance of a closed-loop system where waste is not disposed in landfills but instead transformed into valuable resources based on the adoption of the ‘Cradle-to-Cradle’ principle.
J&T Naza Alam Murni Sdn Bhd (JNA) integrated Sustainable Scheduled Waste Treatment Center (SSWTC)
The SSWTC facilities established under JNA have received its operating license from the DOE to treat and dispose of 76 out of 77 SW codes generated by the industrial and medical sectors in Malaysia.
This integrated facility is committed to environmental responsibility in developing a sustainable scheduled waste management solution through its extensive range of treatment facilities.

The SWTE Plant has a design capacity of 70 tons per day comprises of high-temperature Rotary Kiln-Stoker and Secondary Combustion Chamber to efficiently treat both organic and inorganic waste through thermal combustion, following environmental guideline and standards. It is equipped with flue gas-cleaning system to effectively eliminate air pollutants, in adherence to the Clean Air Regulation 2014 emission standards set by DOE Malaysia.
The Solidification Plant with a capacity of 8,000 tons per annum is designed to receive inorganic scheduled waste, which will undergo solidification process, which is crucial for stabilizing the heavy metal levels such as cadmium, chromium, copper, arsenic, lead, nickel, and zinc, prior to the final disposal at the Secure Landfill.
The Advanced Secure Landfill facilitates the safe disposal of residues from SWTE Plant, solidified and permitted scheduled waste from industries. It is engineered with a triple bottom liner system to enhance prevention of leachate from seeping into the groundwater. It also employs advanced HDPE daily cover liner method for tipping operations to optimise leachate treatment process and contributes to energy savings and reducing carbon footprint.
SSWTC is also equipped with a laboratory that has modern testing equipment. Each waste sample undergoes comprehensive waste analysis for various parameters to determine the suitable treatment method.
Closing the loop of circular economy by integrating capabilities of JNA & ANSB
In line with Naza Enviro’s principle of advocating circular economy, the operations of JNA and ANSB have been successfully integrated by harnessing the heat energy from JNA’s SWTE Plant into its Dryer Plant. Such utilization of heat energy in the Dryer Plant is crucial to effectively reduce the moisture level of high moisture scheduled wastes that can be recycled by ANSB’s co-processing into ARM or AF.
The integration of JNA heat energy and ANSB recycling of moisture controlled scheduled waste is a first-of-its-kind in Malaysia and enables efficient carbon reduction method for managing scheduled waste. This synergy supports the closed-loop concept and the principles of a circular economy.
“The utilization of heat from JNA SWTE Plant allows ANSB to treat a greater quantity of high moisture scheduled waste, while maintaining ANSB’s technology of achieving 100% recycling of scheduled waste organically without using additives or chemicals”, said Mr. Steven Wong, the CEO of ANSB who is spearheading the integration of both ANSB and JNA.

ESG, sustainability development goals (SDG) & circular economy contribution
In order for organizations or companies to achieve its ESG targets and SDGs as advocated by United Nations, they have to conduct proper scheduled waste management by appointing appropriate treatment, recycling and disposal facility operators. Naza Enviro via its subsidiaries, JNA and ANSB offers the most suitable and advanced facilities for managing scheduled waste.
JNA and ANSB are dedicated to maintain sustainable waste management through the implementation of practices in its operations that align with the ESG aspects such as;
Resource Efficiency
The Co-Processing recycling encourages waste reduction through complete recovery efficiency without residue.
Heat harnessed from SWTE is circulated to the Dryer Plant, function to lower scheduled waste moisture level prior to Co-Processing.
Rainwater harvesting and surface water run off collection for other facilities’ utilization to optimise water consumption.
Reduce electricity consumption via optimization of leachate treatment process, installation of rooftop solar panels and smart energy profiling management system.
Environmental, Health & Safety
Continuously complies to the stringent regulatory and environmental standards as imposed by the Department of Environment and Department of Safety & Health of Malaysia.
Diligent practice of Standards Operating Procedures (SOP), monitoring, reporting, regular training and awareness programs.
Economic Benefits
Implementation of the closed loop system to achieve circular economy contributes to the ability to offer competitive treatment costs to subsequently benefit the waste generators in the industry.
Produce higher quality and quantities of green products for the industry to reduce their reliance on raw materials, operating cost and carbon footprint.
Assist the waste generators and green product off-takers to achieve their ESG objectives.
Naza B Eco Services Sdn Bhd (Naza-BES) – Redefining Waste Solutions
