Patriotism is an important core value that every person should have in their heart and mind. Patriotism matters because by honouring our diverse culture, learning about our past and visiting our heritage sites, we are educating our children to take pride in being Malaysians who contribute positively to our nation's growth.

This is the practice implemented by Edumaax, with numerous educational institutions under its wing. Ms. Anne Rajasaikaran, CEO of Edumaax Sdn Bhd, under the umbrella of MAA Group, believes that every child in Malaysia deserves high-quality education accessible to all.

Recently, St. John’s International School (SJIS) in Kuala Lumpur celebrated Malaysia Day. Students were introduced to traditional dances, dikir barat, traditional attire and patriotic songs.

They also celebrated one of their students, Wan Aleeya Maisarah, who earned her spot in the national football team, the Malayan Tigress U-16 squad.

At Imperium International Secondary School (IISS) in Sabah, the school organised a visit to the Sabah State Legislative Assembly to expose the students to the democratise system in Malaysia.

They also had a festive Kaamatan celebration during their Open Day, where they invited local talents to liven up the day. Henry, one of the students, admitted, "I have only moved to Sabah last year, so that was my first time seeing the Sumazau Dance. It was incredible!".

While SJIS and IISS took their own approaches, Imperium International College (IIC) fostered patriotism in a different way. The student organisation joined a volunteering session for the Pantai Cuang Beach Cleanup, organised by Sustainability Solutions, alongside the amazing Mah Meri community.

The students also attended the Earth Hour Summit organised by WWF Malaysia, where they learned about climate change. Anita, one of the students, explained, "All of these were an eye-opening experience for me, because I now know what I need to do to make Malaysia a better place."

Encouraging a sense of patriotism in our children is like passing down a treasured legacy. Therefore, begin this adventure together and witness our children's affection for Malaysia grow.
