Recent remarks by Kedah Menteri Besar Sanusi Nor have once again brought these questions into the national spotlight.
Speaking recently at a rally in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan, he reportedly stated: “The Malays have no other land. Malays only have this Tanah Melayu. Indians have India, Chinese have China, Cambodians have Cambodia, and the Siamese have Thailand. Where do the Malays go? Malays are only here.”
To complicate matters further, about a week earlier, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang apparently described DAP supporters as “pendatang” (immigrants).
Sanusi’s suggestion that Chinese Malaysians have China as their homeland, and Indian Malaysians have India, has provoked widespread criticism.
