Muhyiddin: PN consensus needed to expel Bersatu; Dong Zong slams Hadi over 'pendatang' rant

• Any decision to expel a party from Perikatan Nasional cannot be made by any individual but must be approved by all component parties, as stipulated in the coalition’s constitution.

  Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin reportedly said so after Negeri Sembilan Parti Wawasan Negara election director Badrul Hisham Shaharin suggested that Bersatu could be expelled from PN over its decision to contest against the coalition in the state polls.

  Sinar Harian reported Muhyiddin questioning Badrul’s (popularly known as Chegubard) remark, saying he has no authority to make such a decision for PN.

  

  “Who is this Chegubard? Is he a member of the PN leadership council? I'll answer that myself: no, he isn’t.

  “Can he contest? … Don’t simply take it upon yourself to make decisions. Under the PN constitution, if you want to expel any party, there must be consensus among all members of the coalition,” Muhyiddin was quoted as saying.

• Education group Dong Jiao Zong has criticised recent remarks by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who said that the DAP promotes Islamophobic propaganda and described DAP members as being “pendatang brought in by the colonialists”.

  In a statement today, the group said that such remarks not only do little to strengthen national unity but also risk eroding the foundation of inter-ethnic trust that has been built over many years.

  

  “It is therefore inappropriate to determine whether a particular community is made up of ‘immigrants’ or ‘indigenous inhabitants’ based on who arrived first.

  “The ‘pendatang’ narrative is not only historically unfounded, but also runs counter to the principles of modern democracy, which uphold the equal rights of all citizens,” it said.
