What a surprise from attorney general Abdul Gani Patail's new bag of tricks! It is very good news to hear that the case against Karpal Singh for sedition is withdrawn by the office which charged him in the first place. What a useful gift for voters in Indera Kayangan!

From your report of the matter, the attorney general did not appear to think that the charge was misconceived in the first place. So the withdrawal of the case can be construed as more political in nature.

Lo and behold, it was sheer magnanimity on the AG's part and the government which he represents to drop charges! A belated Christmas present and a 'right foot' as his first public act.

We will have to wait and see if the new AG will sweep clean the chambers. Funny that the Anwar trial was put off for the third time though, don't you think?
