Teachers who bully students in classrooms are a big concern to parents. Their actions has left many a victim emotionally scarred for life.

I hope my letter will encourage victims to come forward as a warning to all sadistic teachers giving the profession a bad name in Malaysia.

My friend, G, is a successful and intelligent person in her mid-20s. She vividly recalls when she had this horrible teacher at a public all-girls' primary school in Malaysia.

That teacher would pinch, yell, cane or hit G and her classmates over minor infringements ranging from not putting down the day and date on every page of their exercise books, to not finishing their homework.

The same teacher would also belittle and mock G and her classmates just because the child was not smart enough or different from the other kids.

In addition, she would play favouritism by ignoring those she deemed as 'unintelligent' in the class and even encouraged the smart students to bully G and their fellow peers for being different.

When the parents of the bullied girls got wind of the teacher's antics, they complained only to discover the principal took the monster's side rather than theirs.

As a result, that teacher got away scot-free numerous times and carried on with her nasty antics over and over again.

My friend, G, was emotionally depressed and angry throughout her childhood and adolescent years until she finally learnt to live and let go when she entered university overseas.

Today, she and the other victims of her alumni are now living happy and successful lives.

To her dismay, the same ‘monster teacher' is now teaching in an international school in their hometown. G and her friends are concerned for the welfare of the children in that school.

It is time we not only pay heed to victims like G and her friends but also take action against sadistic teachers.

Unless something is done, these bullies will get away scot-free leaving their victims emotionally or psychologically broken.

Are we going stand and do nothing while a child commits suicide or go into a downward spiral because of such monsters?

Perhaps we should make bullying committed by teachers not only a criminal offence but also blacklist them from teaching for life to ensure no child is subjected to such abuse in classrooms.
