When I read your May Day report of the three concerned Malaysians arrested for bringing food to 17 other May Day marchers detained earlier that day, I thought that was simply unbelievable.

Your report that two of them were charged under the Police Act under some convenient ("disorderly conduct") catch-all provision confirmed the worst.

The question that is on everyone's mind is of course why no action has been taken on the 30 reports filed against the police officer? We are talking about 30 reports filed by citizens from all walks of life.

It would appear that the arrest and the charging of the two is a kind of selective prosecution.

The big police story that hits the papers is the lifting of the RM2 'processing fee' over traffic summonses. However, every person whose name is on or will be on the electoral role must realise that the bigger story is the scandal that police violence on May Day went unheeded by Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. We should all remember this.
