What motive does Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Mohd Ali Thambi Chik have in slandering his boss? This is a valid question that needs answers.

Please note that after the issue was raised in Parliament and both department director-general Jaafar Sidek Thambi and Housing Minister Ong Ka Ting had clarified and replied to the allegations, there has not been any further discussion about it (in Parliament).

If the opposition has a problem with this, why hasn't PAS Youth chief Mahfuz Omar pursued the matter further after the clarification given by Jaafar?

Newspapers no longer reported on the issue except for 'alternative' publications like the Sun and malaysiakini .

Let's get the facts right on the wedding:

It was held kenduri (banquet) style at the Stadium Juara (which is in Bukit Kiara) and not at the Bukit Jalil Stadium. Five thousand people attended. The Bomba personnel helped out.

The dinner reception held at the Renaissance Hotel the following evening had 500 guests, not 3,000 as Mahfuz claimed. (The Renaissance cannot accommodate 3,000 people, I've called to check)

It is normal for weddings to be held, it is normal for many people to attend, especially Malay weddings. It wasn't a 'sit-down-with-speeches' kind of an event.

Lavish? What's the definition? Good quality food and drink? Being a Malay wedding, there wasn't any expensive wine served, only delicious air sirap (syrup water). Food on silver platters? There was only ordinary plates provided by the caterers. Lavish? I think not. A better word for it would be meriah (festive).

So? Does this mean that no heads of departments should hold a wedding for their sons and daughters while they are still in service?
