I refer to the campaign

to get the residents affected by the incinerator project in Puchong/Kinrara to register as voters in that area. I think this is a right move as the issue certainly affects the voters in that area and the link to the vote is a good step.

However I would like to caution the campaigners from being too quick to organise voters to accept the MyKad too readily. The information required by the authorities for MyKad may contain information which the state has no business to know in the first place. We seem not to have grasped the concept of privacy. Perhaps those who already have reservations or ideas on this could email the sites where these grouses are posted.

Having said that, I think the PJ group complaining on the PJ development project, the Subang Jaya residents who were complaining about corruption in a building project where they are situated and the Puchong/Kinrara communities should get together and share their experiences.

This may lead to development of an important link among community action groups and lead to common campaigns for the betterment of their communities, environment and rights. Perhaps one solid action, as many appear keen to express their views through the vote, could be the proposal for a return of local elections. People have so many ideas as soon as they sit down for a discussion. Anything is possible.
