I was enraged when my brother told me that his Form 3 son's assignment for the week is an essay entitled 'Your views o­n the American war o­n the Iraqi people'.

My nephew is going to make up a view that would fit into the view of the teacher which is at odds with his own view which is influenced by all the chatter at home from parents and relatives over the war.

It will not be an honest view and he is going to learn from this that telling untruths can be rewarding at times. Indeed he is even going to get help in putting the lie together.

This then are the values that Malaysian children grow up learning and will put into practice when they grow up!
