With reference to the controversy of Astro's Emperor package, I believe that the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs should investigate the company's business practises.

Astro is a monopoly. It does not have competitors. Therefore, it is behaving precisely the way monopolist do - raising prices and providing poor quality services.

The Malaysian public is forced to accept whatever is given by Astro as we do not have a choice. The local television channels, well, that's another story.

In most developed countries, there would be more than o­ne satellite TV station.

This is not a matter of consumers not subscribing to Astro services, but a question of ethical and proper business practises.

There are many complaints against Astro from deplorable customer service, excessive charges, charges without the consent from the customer, regular breakdown of services to dubious marketing strategies.
