I refer to the letter by MSY o­n supporting Keadilan. While I totally agree with his points o­n the changing phase of Malaysian politics, I disagree that we should throw our wholehearted support for Keadilan.

The reasons for this are simple:

1) Why should I throw my support behind a party that has its objectives pretty much set in the past? No doubt, Anwar Ibrahim is still a prisoner, but Keadilan must move o­n from him. There are more pressing issues that must be dealt with. The reality is that many people feel that Keadilan is extremely fixated with Anwar and has not been in touch with various issues that are current.

2) Keadilan doesn't seem interested in pushing its agenda out to the world for Malaysians to see and evaluate. DAP is constantly issuing press statements and pushing its ideas using the Internet. Pas has its own website. They even have live web-casts of their views o­n issues affecting this country. The last I checked, the Keadilan's website redirects to a pornographic website because someone has neglected to renew their domain name and update their website for ages.

3) Keadilan has clearly failed to outline the boundaries of its alliance with PAS. While Keadilan claims to be a non-racial party upholding justice for all, it has not really said how it intends to uphold these ideals in its alliance with PAS. This is worrying to many non-Muslims who do not have faith in PAS to ensure that the rights of non-Muslims will be maintained.

The reality? Many Malaysians feel that Keadilan is detached from the political scene and is still trying to capitalise o­n Anwar's old influence. Wake up, Keadilan! The o­nly way you are ever going to gain ground in the next election is to address the current issues.

Anwar is not the key to political success. Keeping in touch with the realities of the world and appealing to young professionals is a more potent formula. Anwar was a face that appealed to many in the last general election.

This time around, it'll be yet another face with no real bearing. Till the day Keadilan deals with the present, my vote remains with the National Front.
