Another pig story to get Muslims in this country riled up! I refer to your story on the cartoon in Pas' Harakah which had a drawing of a pig next to the picture of the outgoing Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

I hope this pig tale will not overshadow the need to prevent flooding in Kuala Lumpur during the next storm or the moral-cleansing stories of courting couples holding hands in our parks.

If I may say so, Muslims are not forbidden from eating pork. If it is necessary to eat pork, Muslims are compelled to choose this over death by starvation. There may some innuendo that Mahathir is dirty or unclean, but he is not, I think, unIslamic.

What I find offensive in the Harakah cartoon is that it equates Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome with pigs (which is unfounded) which may stigmatise those who do consume pork, and which may lead to some ethnic bias in this country.

As it is, some people I've met have been saying that Sars could not hit Malays or Muslims because they do not eat pork.
