I refer to the letter by Offended of Kuala Lumpur on the link by Jeff Ooi to another blogger, Israeli Guy . There are a two issues that must be contended here.

Firstly, from many posts in his blog, Jeff has pointed out that malaysiakini only syndicates his website to provide a new perspective and to embrace the concept of recognising blogging as an upcoming media tool.

Hence, views noted in Jeff Ooi's blog does not, in any way, represent the views of the malaysiakini editorial staff as they do not (and should not) control its content.

Secondly, Offended has a choice not to click on the said link. The views of all, be it left wing or right wing Jewish views, are just as legitimate as views sympathising with Palestinians. Just because the Malaysian government doe not recognize the Israeli administration, it does not mean that Malaysians cannot read about the views of the Israeli people concerning the peace process.

One can never get a whole perspective of an issue without considering all sides in the saga. The key here is that Offended can choose to read the blog or not if he/she finds it insulting. Jeff Ooi has the choice of linking to the Israeli blogger.

If this might discourage certain people from reading his blog, that is the consequence of exercising his right. This element of choice forms the fundamental basic right that many Malaysians are fighting for - the right to a free media.

I purchased a subscription to malaysiakini and read Jeff Ooi's blog regularly to ensure that I can grasp all perspectives and come up with an informed decision by myself. I've had enough of mainstream media trying to tell me what I can and cannot read, what I can and cannot believe.

I urge the malaysiakini editorial staff not to censure Jeff Ooi. I wish to congratulate both parties for their independent and unbiased views on issues.
