Umno Youths doublespeak on police qualification
The Sept 18 edition of The Sun carried a report headed 'Lifting entry rule will hit police force quality'.
The report quoting Umno Youth executive committee member Subahan Kamal said that the police's readiness to consider relaxing the basic qualification of a credit in Bahasa Malaysia at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia level for the post of police constable to attract more non-Malays is seen as a backward step that can hurt the quality of the force.
Subahan said this was also unfair to the Malays as it indirectly created a new form of discrimination.
"Why should one race get a special privilege and be allowed a different set of basic qualifications... a police career is a national career encompassing all races in the country," he said.
Syabas, Datuk! I am right with you on this. Why indeed should one race get a special privilege?
But do ponder for a moment, is not what the government policies have been about all these 46 years?
I guess in the typical doublespeak of Umno politicians, discrimination is fine as long as it is not a "new form".
Give some credit to the people's intelligence, please!
