A Hakem writes in his letter (' Protest with PAS ') in response to LCH's letter (' What PAS must do to get non-Muslim votes ') on the point of elimination of the New Economic Policy/New Development Policy, "The questions here is, who introduced these policies".

Fine. From that I assume what he is suggesting is that BN, which introduced the policies, should dismantle them. I would think that to be a fair statement.

So what happens if PAS wins the next general election and BN has not dismantled the NEP/NDP? Is he suggesting that since NEP/NDP is BN's responsibility, then the status quo should remain? In other words, even under a PAS government, the bumiputera privileges provided by the NEP/NDP would continue? That would seem to be the case.

On the other hand, I presume PAS will act to dismantle the casinos allowed by BN as these are forbidden in Islam. Presumably somewhere in their reckoning, they can see that Islam would do a shut eye on what is obviously a very unIslamic NEP/NDP although it would be within their power to dismantle it as they would casinos and alcohol and entertainment!

This is why many non-Muslims will not vote PAS. BN is certainly anytime better, warts and all
