I refer to Kariena Abdullah's comments of the discussion on campus elections and student politics. I was waiting for letters on her comment but as at the time of writing, none seemed forthcoming, I venture this small note.

Her point that students should be free to be involved in party politics is well taken. However I would like to offer an opinion that party politics is sometimes mostly about power than representation.

In my view, students may be better strengthened in their political awareness by exploring political concerns along academic freedom and autonomy and develop their 'indigenous' strategies or mechanisms to pursue these liberties which may include the lobbying of political parties in their 'representation' of rights of students.

Perhaps the question is about strengthening the students' voice - how can this voice be heard and strengthened in the political process? Electoral politics and political parties is a fraction of that wider concern.
