The arrest of the 13 students who were deported from Pakistan and held under ISA in Malaysia makes me very uncomfortable as reported in malaysiakini .

I am extremely concerned that the new PM and the new IGP are continuing in essence what is a unjust and unfair law.

These students were arrested in Pakistan for militant activities, surely the evidence can be sourced from the Pakistani police. Why detain them to investigate when by now all should be clearer.

Please do not get me wrong, I am all for the arrest and charging of those who break the law or by looking to remove an elected government from power by unlawful and armed methods. However, if that is the case, just charge them in court for all the rakyat to see and be convinced that there is a danger to the rest of us.

Extrajudicial detention powers will only serve to martyr these people if they are indeed guilty. I do not want to see my country reduced to the level of chaos of the Aceh province or the streets of Zamboaga but it still makes me very guilty that we are harming people and using unfair methods to ensure our continuous racial harmony. That is just not right.

Are these people really militants or do they just belong to a religious sect that is not recognised in Malaysia or not acceptable to the ruling party. They must be allowed to openly air their opinion so that we can pick holes in it.

For example, many of PAS policies are good and there are also bad ones. If PAS had been banned, we would not have had a chance to debate about syariah laws and separate supermarket queue and that sort of thing.

I am worried that more militant groups will appear out of the woodwork if we continue to suppress and bully these ISA detained type of people. Everyone says our laws are adequate, why don't use them instead.

We rakyat wish to see harmony and peace as well. We will support the authorities if it can be proven that these people are a danger to our society. I worry that we may end up like Iran or Algeria where the religious movement was suppressed so much that they decided to take up arms instead.

The Grik shooting incident comes to our mind, the nation was full and unwavering in its support for the government handling and the following charging of this people in open court.

Please Pak Lah and the new IGP, use open court to reveal and share with the rest of us the threat this ISA 13 pose to our way of living. After all you want us to speak the truth and perhaps the government should show us the way.

This morning I read the headlines stating that the Karachi 13 will be freed if they are innocent. Excuse me Pak Lah, surely they should only be arrested if they are guilty and not the other way around. It is a sad day indeed for those who expected changes to civil liberties with the change of guards.
