I agree with Mary Lee (' May God open the hearts of Anwar's opponents ' ) that Keadilan is a moderate, non-extremist, multiracial party. It is heartening to note that many non-Malays and non-Muslims support the party for being truly multiracial in nature and ideology.

But is that reason enough to support a political party? What good is a moderate policy if you are working hand-in-hand with an extremist party, namely PAS?

Of course PAS supporters will cry out that the term 'extremist' is inappropriate because non-PAS supporters (a big majority of Malaysians) are supposedly ignorant of the 'true Islam', and so on and so forth. That is another matter (take a look at Ummu Nadihah's letter and decide).

There are Keadilan supporters, like Hishamuddin Rais for instance (he is a supporter, but wisely, not a member) who defends secularism and argues well that supporting secularism is not being anti-Islam as feared by many Malay/Muslims who had been deceived by PAS.

But Keadilan leaders, in their burning desire to defeat BN seemed to ignore cries by many to stay away from PAS and cooperate with DAP instead. Non-Malay leaders of the party prefer to shy away from Islamic issues for fear of being branded anti-Malay and anti-Islam.

It is fine for Mary Lee and other non-Muslims to go on supporting this Keadilan-PAS pact since their liberty would not be as greatly affected, though affected nevertheless, if the opposition were to come into power.

But please think of us fellow Malaysian Muslims who will be forced to follow another set of rules and regulations and denied many democratic rights accorded to you.
