Politics is brutal. Ask Caesar.
Abdullah Ahmad Badawi can die a hero's death by undoing the rot that Mahathir has brought.
Tungku, a rich playboy, did not really need corrupt business friends. Tun Razak and Tun Hussein Onn, coming from families with pedigree, could not stoop so low as to wallow in corruption. The poor boy from the north wanted to make it really big in Malaysia. And he went to any lengths to ensure that he succeeded, only to give birth to a mess worthy of the many records that Malaysia holds.
What should Abdullah do? I remember his poem - that his only wish is to follow the Holy Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon Him). Therefore, Abdullah should not worry about the being prime minister or remaining as Umno president. He should worry if he is following the teachings of the Prophet.
He can easily demonstrate this.
Rafidah Aziz, Samy Vellu and Muhamad Muhd Taib all have had very substantial corruption allegations against them. They were never tried in a Malaysian court. Nonetheless, no self-respecting human being will vouch for their innocence. Abdullah should drop them from his list.
This will show that Abdullah is serious about following the Prophet. Furthermore, Malaysians will believe that he is indeed serious about reforming the country and this will set the standards for future PMs, let alone set an example to all other corrupt petty officials and ministers.
For sure BN will win the election, the people will ensure that - although Abdullah may lose his presidency of Umno. But then again, isn't Abdullah's main concern is to follow the Prophet?
