Disband the Bar
In the report Anwar's case: Bar Council raps 'no jurisdiction' excuse , Bar Council chairperson Kuthubul Zaman Bukhari, in response to the Federal Court's decision to deny Anwar's appeal for bail, is quoted as having agreed with the view that it was pointless to have a judicial and legal system that the public has no faith in.
I dare say that the Bar Council has remained in this state of faithlessness for quite a while now. Indeed, I would not be too far wrong in asserting that there is a greater degree of faithlessness amongst the legal fraternity and members of the Bar than amongst the public themselves.
In the past, I have often come across incumbents of a profession leaving the profession because of their disgust with the goings-on amongst their peers. Real professionals have been known to walk away from it all when they find that to stay a minute longer would only be at the cost of their conscience, self esteem and self-worth.
What the Bar Council and its chairperson said in the report is nothing that is new or shocking. We all already know that. And those of us who are not associated with that branch of 'civil society' thank God a thousand times that we are not subject to the compromise that our fellow countrymen belonging to that branch have to submit themselves to in order to continue calling themselves lawyers, solicitors, advocates, magistrates, judges, justices and what have you.
Indeed, in this report, I see a greater hypocrisy amongst this branch of society and its leaders in their attempts to cloud the real issues that matter. Indeed if the judiciary is as dirty as claimed, then honest and good men will just walk out of it and not continue to lend their name to that misguided and stench-filled system.
As long as that threat is not imminent, those who defile the law, the judiciary and the legal system will only continue to perpetuate it.
You guys in your black robes, if you are indeed serious about wanting to redeem the good name of the judiciary and the legal system, let's see that you really do mean it. Disband the Bar. You don't need to do anything illegal. Just tender your resignation and cleanse yourself of this filth.
If only for one day all of you put your pens down ... you might just see some results. But will you?
No, you won't. And that is why all of you - together with those directly responsible - have directly contributed towards this fiasco of us having court jesters rather than judges. It will be good if you guys will just refrain from libeling yourselves and sending confusing messages to us, the users of your services.
You have allowed yourself to be held to ransom, so the hijackers of the system can do whatever they please. Nobody is holding you down to bondage, you hold the key that locks you in that position. I invite you to use it.
