I refer to Suya Mariyathai's letter which suggests that the Malaysia Hindu Sangam should keep out of politics. I have often heard this argument about who should and should not talk about politics.

Politics is to serve the people's good, not just the good of politicians or favoured people. It is for national development. Political decisions affect everything and everybody. Examples are public exams (perhaps even passing the exams), admission to universities, appointments and promotions in the public sector, Approved Permits , housing, loans, the hawkers etc. you name it.

If so many are affected by political decisions, why shouldn't the affected be heard? Should we leave it to the wise politicians? But there are not many honest and committed ones here. Besides, there is nothing divine about the decisions made by the so-called politicians many of whom seem to be self-serving.

In our country, university students - who are often said to be the future leaders of the nation - are barred from politics though political issues affect the nation and its future This is not very educational but then again our education system itself is weak and lacking professionalism - all disturbing.

The Hindu Sangam and others, therefore, should talk about any muck that destroys the nation. Or we destroy what we have accomplished. Some are doing just that right now...
