LETTER | I recall back then when the 1MDB fiasco came to light, one of the first top leaders to express dissatisfaction was Muhyiddin Yassin.

He had no qualms in voicing out how he felt over the whole incident and made it clear that it was nothing personal against Najib Abdul Razak but only that he wanted the truth to prevail.

And as expected, Muhyiddin, who was then the deputy prime minister and Umno deputy president, was dropped from the cabinet line-up.

He was then among the founding members of Bersatu and also a key figure in steering the Pakatan Harapan coalition to victory.

The reason I am writing this is because I feel that after all Muhyiddin has sacrificed, despite his illness, he seems to have finally gotten the short end of the stick.

From as far as I know, Muhyiddin has been a straightforward, honest man who never hesitated to speak his mind.

I do not know what kind of relationship he shares now with Dr Mahathir Mohamad but what saddens me is why his name has never been mentioned as among the front-liners to succeed Tun.

Where did names like Azmin Ali suddenly come from and now, out of the blue the rumour mill has it that even Hishammuddin Hussein is in the fray.

I am sure many others out there would agree that Muhyiddin would make a far better candidate than any of those being mentioned.

Like every other Malaysian, I know of the agreement Tun and Anwar Ibrahim have but whether it is going to be honoured is left to be seen.

My question here is what is the future of Muhyiddin? Why has he suddenly been left out of the equation after all the sacrifices he made?

I do not recall Hishammuddin coming out to speak against Najib and his 1MDB fiasco at the time.

Also, till today if I recall correctly, Azmin’s alleged involvement in the gay porn video has yet to put to rest.

Is Muhyiddin being sidelined because of his friendship with Anwar Ibrahim or simply to make way for other "chosen ones"?

From what I know, a good number of Bersatu members themselves are backing Anwar to be the next premier – after all that was the agreement prior to the last general election.

As a political party member and, of course, a citizen of the country, I, along with many others want an end to this fiasco of "handing over power" as it is seriously ruining the nation’s economy.

If an agreement was made, then with all due respect the persons privy to it must honour it – that is the right and respectful thing to do.
