I refer to the letter Extravagance and Mrs Lee Kuan Yew .

Ex-Singaporean obviously has an axe to grind with Lee Kuan Yew and the PAP. His reasons for doing so are best discussed at another forum.

It is wrong for Ex-Singaporean to compare what he deemed as Lee's extravagance in chartering a whole plane to get his wife who was suffering from a stroke back to Singapore from London with Pak Lah getting his own private refurbished jet or yacht whatever.

The circumstances are markedly different. While Lee had to do everything possible to save the life of his wife, Pak Lah's purpose in getting a jet was obviously for the purpose of traveling in luxury whether on government business or pleasure.

Be that as it may, it has yet to be fully ascertained whether Lee used his own funds or Singaporean taxpayers money to charter the flight. But knowing Lee's penchant for transparency, it is likely he used his own money to get his wife to return to Singapore in the shortest possible time when other commercial flights had not been able to do so.

A life was obviously at stake so Lee did what he had to do. In Pak Lah's case there was no justification along the same grounds whatever. Hence the comparison does not cut any ice at all.
