I refer to the malaysiakini report Sequel 'Evan' also faces almighty problem where the influential Muslim Consumers Association ((PPIM) has called for a ban on the comedy blockbuster movie 'Evan Almighty'.

I wonder if there is any double standard here? What about the movie 'Harry Pottter and the Order of the Phoenix' where there are elements of witchcraft, sorcery and magic? Isn't this also offensive to Islam? The movie theatres are now currently showing it.

What about the countless movies which seemed to glorify violence with some element of horror and sex but were still shown although censored in some parts? Why didn't PPIM call for a ban for such countless movies in the past ?

Are they suggesting that they are the moral guardians of a multi-racial society - as to what Malaysians can watch and cannot watch ? These people should not judge a book by its cover, but instead watch the movie first before passing their own judgement.

As of now, from the movie's review which I gathered from the Internet, there is no element of violence or sex or horror in the movie 'Evan Almighty' and the movie is considered family-oriented. In other words, the movie is pretty harmless.

What's more, it's only a comedy movie meant for laughs and not to be taken seriously. In fact, laughter is good medicine for the soul. So my question is why pick on 'Evan Almighty' when there are so many other movies which are violent and horror-oriented ? Aren't they offensive too to Islam? Or are they implying that it's okay to watch violent and horror movies ?
