I refer to the Malaysiakini letter English-medium: Razak did it, period .

I am appalled at Richard Teo's latest outburst to my earlier letters on Rahman Yaakub's sudden and arbitrary decision to phase out English-medium schools in 1969. It is nothing but a regurgitation of what has been conclusively shot down, ie, mere presumptions of what Abdul Razak did are not quite correct given the extraordinary circumstances of an event then.

Teo continues to use Dr Mahathir Mohamad announcing the change in medium of instruction for Maths and Science from Malay to English as a yardstick in justifying his presumption that Razak gave directives to Rahman to convert English-medium schools to Malay. It is a poor analogy as everyone knows the two circumstances are markedly different.

Razak working under tight emergency conditions in 1969 did not have the luxury of legitimacy Mahathir as PM had at least three decades later. That encouraged opportunists like Rahman to strike which would not have been possible in Mahathir's case. Teo's presumption is even more hollow in trying to use Hishammuddin Hussein Onn as another example.

I have made myself clear in condemning what Rahman did and I find it truly amazing when Teo continues to insist that I glorify him. Unless there is convincing proof that Razak did indeed give directives to Rahman to 'kill off' English-medium schools, Teo's adamant presumptions will continue to remain hollow. I rest my case and let readers judge for themselves.
