LETTER | Urging accountability for Israeli actions via Hague Group

LETTER | BDS Malaysia would like to congratulate the government on its principled and brave stance in being a leading member of the “Hague Group” which aims to defend the institutions and rulings of the international legal order.

The group also aims to protect and uphold the rulings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the face of attempts by the US Congress to sanction the ICC.

The reaffirmation of their commitment to upholding international law and ensuring accountability for alleged crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territory by Israeli political and military leaders is very laudable.

Additionally, the group stressed the importance of countries taking steps to prevent the provision or transfer of arms, munitions, and related equipment to Israel, as well as preventing the docking of vessels at any port within their territorial jurisdiction that are used to carry military fuel and weaponry to Israel.

This initiative by Malaysia and other member countries of the Hague Group has exposed the hypocrisy of the United States and some European countries regarding respect for human rights and international law.

BDS Malaysia hopes the Hague Group will also be able to unite the international community to collectively take the necessary steps to suspend or expel Israel from the United Nations General Assembly.

Finally, we also hope the Malaysian government and other members of the Hague Group will put pressure on companies that are complicit with Israel, especially the suppliers of arms and weapons to Israel, by warning them that they will not be welcome to do business in the member countries in the future.
