Zakiah Koya's comment, [#1] A school of thought - are we missing something? [/#] (Feb 3), hit the nail on the head: Why do we need a 70-year-old school?

The parents who advertised in the Star to say that they as the majority have the right to move for the safety and benefit of their children have obviously not visited the proposed site of the new school.

As for pollution and safety concerns, the road in front of the proposed school in Tropicana is already congested now (try using the road before and after office hours) given that there are more and more housing projects that are about to be completed. In fact, right in front of the school is a condominium project that is under construction. Logic prevails that the road cannot possibly service so many housing projects as well and this can only get worse with traffic from buses and parents picking up the school children.

I also note that none of the media (whether yours or mainstream) has ever bothered to take photographs of the new site as well as photographs of the old school to make a comparison. One should not take into consideration the temporary school at all as this has no relevance in the long term. Maybe malaysiakini should take the lead in this matter.

The old school has a new hall built recently as well as a new coat of paint. In addition there is a specially-built stairway for the children to go to a slip road to be picked up by their parents or buses. This slip road is not used by anyone else except those who have any business with the school. In this regard the safety of the children is assured. With regard to pollution, there is no difference between the current site and the proposed site.

It is sad that at the end of the day, social concerns are pushed aside for temporal benefits.
