I read with interest the comments made by Minister in Prime Minister's Department Dr Rais Yatim for a full investigation on the police report made by Beserah assembly representative Fauzi Abdul Rahman. His call for a serious view on power abuse by any person regardless to his official position should be taken seriously.

In Sarawak, almost everybody knows the level of power abuse being practised by the ruling party. The chief minister, Abdul Taib Mahmud, publicly claimed there is no corruption in the state and in a recent interview with national news agency Bernama , he vehemently denied ever assisting his children and family members in business. But ask any businessman or contractor who has been doing any business in the state, whether there is any abuse of power in Sarawak, and I am sure the answer would be affirmative.

Is this call on Fauzi's report merely is a red herring to deflect a major cover-up operation that would eventually close the case because of insufficient evidence? I can't help thinking that Fauzi is being marginaliased for being Anwar's close friend as alleged.

As for the Sarawak chief minister, the [#1] Sayot Taib [/#] website's expos is simply flabbergasting. I am certain there is enough evidence to prosecute him. The civil servants involved in executing verbal instruction by the chief minister and his nominees are certainly prepared to testify in court. I personally met many senior officers who confirmed these allegations and indicated their willingness to cooperate with law enforcement offices.

But would Rais extend his call and comments to combat corruption in Sarawak? The new ACA director has just reported for duty after a stint as commissioner of police in Sarawak. Certainly he is familiar with these allegations and knows that many police reports have been made.
